New Year, New You? Pretty sure you heard this phrase aplenty in the past few days. And while the start of the New Year is the perfect time to set goals for transformation, don’t let the pressure get to you!
You don’t need to feel obligated to completely overhaul your life and change your habits just because the norm says so. Instead, focus on making small changes that are easily achievable and will not end up disturbing your routine entirely!
New Year’s resolutions majorly revolve around improving your health or happiness. And rightly so. After all, nothing matters more than these two. But there’s no denying that the quest to “happily healthier living” feels overwhelming after a while. So what is it that should you do differently? Here are a few simple, measurable goals to set to include health and happiness in your New Year resolutions!
This is the first thing to work on this year. It’s important to focus on the day and not get overwhelmed by the demands of the future. No matter how cliché, you never know what tomorrow holds. So focus on the present moment, and this, in turn, can help reduce stress and anxiety. Taking things one day at a time will also help you stay grounded and focus on what’s important, thus empowering you to progress towards your long-term goals in a more sustainable way.
Be it just spending a quiet day at home with music for company, cleaning your home or even indulging in some skincare. Understand what it is that helps you de-stress and take out time for it. While it is easy to get overwhelmed and get caught up in the demands of daily life, we request you to not neglect your own needs. Taking care of ourselves is crucial to maintain balance and happiness. So make a resolution to prioritise yourself and take out time for yourself on a regular basis – YOU DESERVE IT!
Indulging in some form of physical workout is almost magical in its ability to improve quality of life. And mind you, it doesn’t have to be something fancy always. A small walk in the park with your child, dancing or even taking the stairs every time is equally helpful. Find something you really like so you can stick with it. And remember, every small thing counts!
It’s almost impossible not to emphasise how essential sleep is to good health. It affects everything- from your mood and hormones to your immune system, appetite, weight, thinking, energy, concentration, temper, and even life expectancy. So the next time you think of prioritising binge-watching the next episode over your sleep… think again!
Humans are social creatures, and so our attachment to others is no doubt core to who we are. Don’t underestimate how important healthy relationships are to good health and well-being. So this 2023, regularly plan those weekend brunches with your gang or a mid-week dinner date with your partner. Eat more meals at the dinner table with your family and make dedicated family days without distractions a norm.
Focus on adding one or two small positive habits to your routine daily and make the most of the day in hand. And if you miss a day, start fresh the next day. Everyone falls off sometimes, but that’s nothing to fret about. Even resolutions deserve a cheat day, right? What matters the most is jumping back on and getting back on track for a happy, healthy life.
