Maharashtra, situated in the western peninsular region of India is the second most populous state in India. It houses the commercial capital of the nation and some of the other biggest cities of India. This state, which covers an area of 3,07,713 km square has the largest economy in India, with a GDSP which goes to almost ₹32 trillion.

Founded on 1 May 1960, Maharashtra has evolved over the years as the home of dreamers and hard workers. The roots of its modern-day success and glory date back to the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, when Bombay evolved as an important manufacturing cluster, trading centre and port that exported and imported a significant amount of the country’s goods. Textile, engineering and chemical industries and their ancillaries were the driving force of the state's growth. The likes of IT and service, and real estate have now joined the force and made Maharashtra a leading state in the global economy.

Emergence of a Progressive State 

While textile and mills were the most established industries in the state before independence, the chemical industry rose largely in the 1960s. Then came the twentieth century, which made the state's capital - the financial hub with most businesses and corporates having their headquarters in this city.

The state has since the ancient ages been a site for educational and artistic activities and promoted a vibrant liberal cosmopolitan public sphere.
